Flowering Tea from the Exotic Teapot: My Mouth Blown Glass Teapot and 'Heart of Gold' flowering tea

Last week I was introduced by a friend to the website of The Exotic Teapot, and was beyond excited to discover Flowering Teas..... ummm, how did I miss these?

Well, I have made up for it since and by Friday have received a Classic Discovery Tea Set featuring a beyond beautiful mouth blown glass teapot and a starter set of 5 different Flowering teas....... first on my list was (being a Neil Young fan) of course 'Heart of Gold'.... a Maofeng green tea, with lily, and marigold flowers and fragrant jasmine...

Pouring the water from the kettle, I was like a little kid in a sweetshop.... so, so excited. At first I was a bit worried as the tea ball floated to the top, but it soon sunk and started un-raveling into the most awesome little bouquet.

I waited a few minutes ... took a few photos .... and then poured myself a mug. I was a little apprehensive about trying the tea..it could have been one of those gimmicks that looked good but didn't deliver.... it wasnt. The tea is beautiful!

The great thing is that the tea ball can be used 3 times without the tea becoming bitter.

I would definitely recommend Flowering Teas and The Exotic teapot, my set arrived within a couple of days, beautifully wrapped and in a pretty presentation box. The set is perfect for a tea lover, not only are the flowering teas really cool but the glass teapot is perfect for brewing any loose or bagged teas. It will certainly make my Rose Tea look a lot prettier than when served in my 1980's brown teapot.... not bad for £26!!

The Discovery Flowering tea set contains a Glass Teapot and 5 assorted flowering teas... next on my list Jasmine :)

Maude interiors is a faboulous online store focusing on eclectic home furnishings from across the globe, owner Nicola is one of those lucky people with a real eye for beauty, that gets to travel the globe sourcing stunning textiles and trinkets to sell.... so envious!

I have asked Nicola from Maude to tell us at Moon to Moon a little bit more about the company and herself and her inspiration for opening Maud...

"The name Maud interiors came about because Maud is my family nickname.

My background is in corporate marketing and PR, however I have always wanted my own interiors store and three years ago I decided that the time was right to pursue my dream.  We have been online for two and a half years and hope one day to have a bricks and mortar store too.

The inspiration for the online boutique comes from my love of textiles, colour and design, inherited from my mother an art lecturer, my love of travel inherited from my father, who was always travelling on business to exotic places and my childhood years living in the Middle East.  I travel and source products for the store and aim to work with fair trade organisations, small family run businesses,  social enterprises and designer/makers. "

Maude Interiors: Handira Blanket
It was tough to choose but below I have picked out my 4 favourite items from Maude's online store.

Handira
Handira (pictured above) are Moroccan Wedding blankets that are hand made for future brides to be worn as shawls on their wedding days. They are really heavy blankets and are perfect for the winter months to be used as blankets over the bed.... your certainly wont get cold toes with one of these. Each one is different so you really are getting a unique , hand crafted piece of art work with each handira.

Vintage Abha Hand Embroidered Cushion
I am a total sucker for an Indian Textile, especially if it contains mirrors. These beautiful Hand embroidered Abha cushions are no exception. These vintage, cushion comprises hand embroidered fragments repurposed from traditional tunic bodices and cuffs, they are also backed in Velvet.... Divine!

I love these warm copper meditation bowls. Each one was handcrafted by Tambat coppersmiths in Pune, India. Each indentation is created by a technique called ‘Matharkaam’.   It is a highly skilled craft, carried out with specially profiled beating hammers, which requires strength, dexterity and keen hand-eye coordination.

Perfect for floating flowers or candles in as a table centre piece or as mediation aid. I can imagine the warm glow would be stunning when it contains tea lights

Large Bonakele Basket
These Large Bonakele baskets are great to store kids toys in, rather than shiny predictable plastic storage little fingers love these rougher natural baskets. Each basket is handmade in Swaziland from indigenous and renewable grasses. they come in a variety of different colours. I really love the electric yellow

My Afternoon Designing at Christies Auction House....

A month or so ago I got an email that left me speechless for about an hour... an invitation to be one of 4 Interior Bloggers to Design a space at Christies Auction House in South Kensington. The brief was to create a room using items from their November catalogue...

This was a total dream come true for me. As kids me and my sister would look thourgh catalogues and choose outfits and furntiture we would buy when we were older..... only this time i actually got to play....

With such an open brief I decided to create a room for me. I wanted to make it feel like somewhere friends and family would be happy to sit and relax and chat, that my son could play and that after a day at work I would be happy to kick off my shoes and unwind. Nothing was to be perfect.... just homely.

So I started with the most comfortable looking sofa in the catalogue, a tan Mid-century Percival Lafer. Not only was this chair really quirky looking, it was so unbelievably comfortable, It was slightly worn in places and this just added to its charm.

Then I added a nice big low level coffee table that I could happily sit crossed legged at to eat some food, do some colouring in with Alex at, or use as a meditation altar. On the table i arranged a tray with some personal items from home including my chunk of Amethyst I had brought from Glastonbury, and some Nag Champa incense.

A huge beast of a bamboo plant was borrowed from Christies Reception area. The bamboo was probably the most important element to making this room feel cosy. As soon as I saw the plant in the room I felt a lot more relaxed about the project. I also loved the way the plant worked with the sofa.

I chose the Dutch Jungmann painting because i lived in Holland as a child and just loved that wonderful bright blue. Looking back this is the item that I wish i could take home. ..... I have even considered a bank loan :)

Of course it wouldn't be fair to exclude my sister from playing the game this time so emailed Lizzy the catalogue to see what items she would choose and used a couple in the room....... this was a really important part of making the room feel more personal, and it was nice to be reminded of her and feel her support, when in such an alien environment. As we look around out own homes we are reminded of the people in our lives or the places we have been to collect the items that really make up 'Home' .

I am so pleased with how this room turned out. I had such a wonderful day. I have also left with a new view of Christies. I have to be honest I have always regarded it as a little stuffy but it was anything but!

Mid-century sofa's, Moroccan Lamps, funky Indian cushions...... and the nicest team of people from the Receptionist to the Chairman.

A big thank you to Christies, South Kensington, especially Katy who organized the day. What a wonderful opportunity xx

So what do you guys think? I would love to know?

Please check out the full article (and my slightly rambling interview) on the Christies Website. It is so interesting to see how different each of the 4 rooms turned out considering we were using items from the same catalogue!

The Wild Unknown Tarot Deck: Good Karma Sale

I am a big fan of Kim Kranz and all that she does over at The Wild Unknown. I have the most beautiful musical prism that she handmade some years back and of course her beautiful Tarot cards. But not only is Kim a wonderfully creative lady, she is also a kind hearted business woman with  the perfect mixture of admirable ethics, ideas and drive to push them forward.

Her latest idea is the most wonderful movement.... The Good Karma Sale.... I am useless at Paraphrasing so it is over to Kim to explain....

The holidays are approaching. The frenzy of expectations around Black Friday / Small Business Saturday / Cyber Monday will soon again have us spinning. Year after year its a weekend that’s left me feeling disconnected and conflicted. Sure... more sales... but in the end its an unfulfilling version of what the holidays are "all about".

Last year we here at The Wild Unknown came up with a solution that went over crazy-ridiculously well (from a sales point of view) and also felt truly awesome in the midst of holiday consumption. We offered a site-wide discount to our customers, and let them know that a percentage of our total sales were being donated to a non-profit cause. We called it a “GOOD KARMA SALE" and it went better than any sale we've run. So this year I’m challenging you to join in. The bigger this movement gets, the more amazing the impact. Imagine it for a moment…
xoxo
Kim Krans of The Wild Unknown

-------------------WHAT IS A GOOD KARMA SALE?-------------------

A GOOD KARMA SALE IS A CHANCE FOR BIZ OWNERS BIG AND SMALL TO CONSCIOUSLY REDEFINE OUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE HOLIDAYS. TOGETHER, WE’RE RECLAIMING THE LANGUAGE AND PURPOSE AROUND BLACK FRIDAY/SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY/CYBER MONDAY. WE’RE MAKING THE HOLIDAYS MEANINGFUL AGAIN… TO US, OUR CUSTOMERS, AND THE WORLD. GOOD KARMA FEELS GOOD.

-------------------HOW TO RUN A GOOD KARMA SALE-------------------

1. Call it a GOOD KARMA SALE! Stop using the language "Black Friday / Small Business Saturday / Cyber Monday”. Those phrases never felt quite right anyway.

2. Choose a non-profit or charitable organization to give back to.

3. Run any promotion you were planning for the post-Thanksgiving weekend (20% off, buy one get one free, free shipping, maybe nothing at all… this part is up to you.)

4. Commit to donating 5-10% of your total gross sales to the non-profit of your choice (NOT adjusted sales after expenses! Keep it simple, clean, and easy to calculate!)

5. Once your GOOD KARMA SALE is over, donate the proceeds within a week (on or before December 7th). This keeps the momentum going and the gesture swift and clean.

The great news is that some of my favourite shops are taking part including, Bona Drag, Pamela Love, Mara Hoffman, Marble and Milkweed, and IvyIvyIvy.... To see the full, ever increasing list of shops and stores Head over to The Wild Unknown

The home of Leslie Crow is one of my all time favorites from Style Like U. Everything about it is just so perfect and homely. Miles away from city life, like Leslie herself there is nothing pretentious and gentrified about her home. It is a perfect example of a warm, friendly home that has been created with items that are personal to Leslies tastes and serve a purpose.

“Our generation has an opportunity to go back to a more natural way of life, and that is something that I am very passionate about,”

As a bit of a loner and a disgruntled city dweller, I find Leslie's more simple, more natural way of life really inspirational. I would love to live far away from the city, with a huge garden to keep some animals, grow some crops and let my children run freely and build treehouses. It is clear to see how Leslie creates such beautiful leather goods from this home....

Shop: An Interview with Dean and Jeska from The Future Kept...

The Future Kept: An Independent UK based Online Shop

I first discovered The Future Kept via Pinterest. It was the Pink Honey Comb House of Rym Blanket in the above picture that first caught my eye, and after heading over to their site and bagging myself one I have become a huge fan, and thought it was time I shared!!

.... so Moon to Moon caught up with husband and wife duo Dean and Jeska to find out a little more about The Future Kept

What inspired you to open the Future Kept?
For a long time both of us had noticed significant changes in the way that we lived, the items we chose for our home and for every day life, and just felt a strong connection of wanting to do something together that reflected that, and something that was a combination of both of our creative pursuits and combining all the things that we both enjoy.  The Future Kept is part of this journey for us both, our online store with a focus to lead and inspire people to think a little more carefully about the items they have in their lives. By working with talented and independent creatives who create products grounded in meanings and story, we aim to promote the ethos of Buy Less, Buy Better, to connect and form relationships with like-minded folk, and create something which can have a positive impact on how people live, and the environment.

Dean's Choice: Mountain Coffee Mug
What would you say is the style /vibe of the shop?
Ha, that is a tough one! We don’t really fit into one particular aesthetic or style/taste. It is a combination of what we both like, so not overly masculine or feminine, it is more about the individual pieces than too much of a definitive style. We are both always drawn to items that are both useful and beautiful, with timeless qualities or a strong provenance, pieces that are outside of fashions or trends. A lot of the style is influenced by a sort of criteria we have when brining anything new to the store, who makes it, how is it made, where is it made, what does it support. I suppose if you had to call it anything, we have a slightly bohemian/rescued/wabi-sabi/timeless vibe!
The Future Kept: Pop-up shop in West Elm UK

What was the inspiration behind the name?

We wanted something that initially summed up how we feel about how we personally lived, something that was more than just a shop, online store, buying & selling, the name definitely evolved as we worked on one, but The Future Kept just felt right, plus all the domains and social channels were available, which as an online store is of a huge importance. It also had to have a somewhat timeless feel and sound to it, with that being part of the ethos of the store, something that wasn’t particularly strong or to ‘on trend’ wouldn’t have quite sat right with either of us. We still can’t remember which one of us actually came up with it in the end! But I do know that Jeska definitely had the final say and wasn’t budging on the name while I procrastinated for way too long!

What are your 5 Favorite products from the shop?

This is hard, because we basically love everything in the store! :)

Waxed Canvas Backpack -
English Oak Pocket Knife -

Roam Camera Bag -

Indigo Remnant Quilt -
Forest Goddess Print -
Beacon Lambswool Shawl -

Jeska's Choice: Liha Beauty oil

What next for the future kept? Bricks and Mortar shop?

It is hard to say! We would love a space of our own where we could create something that was a bit more community and creatively driven than a normal shop. Being able to pursue the shop full time is something we would definitely love to do (we both work freelance as well still at the moment!) We are looking at doing some more pop-ups next year around the country so that we can travel more and meet more of the people we have been meeting online and through the store, maybe something a little longer than a few days, who knows! Mainly we are just so thankful for the way this first year has gone and the overwhelming feedback and support that really does keep us going every day

If you had the choice of traveling back in time to shop for furnishings for your home what decade would you choose?

Ahhhhh, another tough one! turn of the century late 1800’s for its utilitarian, well worn honestly crafted - frontier cabin style or the 1950’s for a full mid century minimal Danish blowout! One place we have visited and wouldn’t need to travel in time to that kind of sums up our ideal style is Christiania in Copenhagen, the recycled resourcefulness and sheer beauty of that whole area and the houses is completely magical.

Thank You so much to Dean and Jeska for taking time out to talk to Moon to Moon.  The Future Kept can also be found on Instagram, Pinterest, facebook and twitter

BED PEACE, HAIR PEACE: In bed with John Lennon & Yoko Ono

On March 25th 1969, only 5 days after their wedding, John Lennon and Yoko Ono staged a couple of non-violent in-bed protests. One in room 702 of the Amsterdam Hilton and later one in Montreal, in aid of world peace. The press were invited to attend between 9am and 9pm to talk about Peace.

As a life long Pacifist these pictures have always struck a nerve with me and with the recent troubles in Paris and Syria  (and the many other places) I found myself looking at these pictures again.

I have been called idealistic and naive but I really don't see why people can't just chill out, be kind and all get along....... and as John and Yoko said.......Remember Love!

The images have become Iconic however it was not until 2012 that Yoko Ono released the video for the world to see. It is over an hour long but it is a great watch

Collection: Claire's Toy Caravans....

I come from a family of collectors. As a child it was a pretty much a weekly occurrence to visit antique or collectors fairs with my parents. I grew up with an appreciation of what it was 'to collect'.

I have been admiring Claire's beautiful home on Instagram for some time now and am planning to do a little tour and interview in the near future, but as soon as I saw Claires caravan collection i just had to find out more and share.

Claire was kind enough to answer some questions about her collection....

Claire Oster's Toy Caravan Collection

Hello! My name is Claire I'm 35 and I live in Strasbourg France with my Husband Simon, Son Lucas, Step-Son Colin, and our two cats Holly and Tom. I'm currently a stay at home Mum and I'm originally from London in the UK. I moved to Strasbourg to be with my now Husband who I met online. I've been here just over 6 years. Previous to that I spent 3.5 years living in Melbourne, Australia, so I've moved around quite a bit!
What made you start collecting caravans?
I first started collecting caravans just over a year ago, after noticing the collection of a fellow instagrammer (@junkshopvenus) which I really admired! I then spotted one at a charity shop and that was it! I've been searching them out ever since.
Did you holiday in caravans as a child so do they have a nostalgic value for you?
My grandparents had a caravan when I was very small, but I think for me, it’s just a nostalgia for anything in the past. I'm a bit obsessed with collecting anything from the 50's/60's/70's.

Do you have a caravan of your own?

No...But I really, really wish that I did!! Perhaps one day....
Where do you buy them from?
The majority of mine have been found at charity shops, Car boot sales, vide greniers ect, though I have found a couple on ebay, One was gifted to me from the Instagram friend whose collection I mentioned above, that kick-started me to begin collecting them myself, which was really lovely!
Is there a wish list caravan?
Not especially, as instead of searching for particular models, I prefer to see what I come across when hunting charity shops and car boot sales. That said, I would really like some of the Dinky models that I don't have in my collection, which don't really turn up often in France. For me, the thrill is finding one 'in the wild' that I don't already have. Even if it’s the same, but in a different colourway to one already in my collection. Different colour - Different caravan!

What is the most you have paid for one?
I think the most I paid was £5 on Ebay, for one that I really wanted. But usually I pay between 50 cents and 3 euros. Mine is not an expensive collection!
Do you have any other collections?
Do I? Ha-ha! I have so many collections that it would take too long to list them all here ;)
Among other things, I collect West German plant pots, Vintage bride and groom wedding cake toppers, Kitsch Spanish holiday souvenirs from the 70's, vintage tights/stockings in their original packaging, anything tiny that I display in old print drawers, retro/vintage kitchen items, Anything religious, creepy vintage plastic squeak toys and basically anything vintage/kitsch/curious that catches my attention. Most of my collections have happened by accident, where I have found one of the items, loved it, and then spotted others out and about. Once I've found three of something, it’s officially a collection! All of my things have been found cheaply in charity shops or at car boot sales.

A massive thank you to fellow mama Claire, I know how precious time is when you have a little one xx

If any of you have a collection you would like to share please email me at moontomoon@live.co.uk

The Home of...... Oroboro's Marina Burini

I have featured loads of homes on Moon to Moon over the years, but this one I think might actually be my favourite. Everything about this Brooklyn Townhouse is just so perfect.

This is the home of Stylist and store owner Marina Burini and is located above her shop Oroboro (previously called Beautiful Dreamers) in Brooklyn.

What I love about his home is that there is something interesting and surprising in every room. It is full of beautiful textiles, houseplants and stunning little trinkets..... and the most awesome woven cushion I have ever seen (below).

Although like Oroboro, the home is perfectly curated, it is a really homely home and it is evident that it is lived in. With plenty of cushions and enough light to ensure the house plants are happy and thriving, and an awesome meditation corner

Painted Stairs
In the UK it is traditional to carpet the stairs but I love these painted staircases. Whether it is rainbow or gradiented like above or block colour like below, painting the stairs is a cheaper option than carpet and adds a bit of fun and pop of colour to an otherwise plain and hard to decorate part of the home.

All the homes in the pictures I have chosen are so different and yet the colour instantly transforms  the homes, especially in the 3rd image, which (in my opinion) looks really sterile apart from the fun stairs

I really love the blue stairs in the picture above. Such a fun entrance to a child's bedroom/ secret world :)

The problem with blogging is that sometimes it is impossible to find an original source for a photo that you love. I usually follow wild goose hunt trails from Pinterest to tumblr and back to pinterest etc.... The top image has been one of those that i have been trying to track for sometime and I finally found it today!!!

The picture is from the flickr account of 'mista masaai', and is from a series of before and after shots that he took of his bedroom.

It is such a beautiful relaxing room isn't it? I love the calm relaxing vibe of this room. The soft muted tones paired with the turquoise bedspread work beautifully with those big house plants..... and that mid-century modern chair is a perfect touch.

It is one of my all time favorites and I am so glad I tracked it down so I can finally credit it properly!!

The Moon to Moon Home at Christmas: with Not on The High Street

Leather Drinks Tray, Battery Candles, Tangiers Fairy Lights, Handmade Snowflake Wrapping Paper, Personalised Christmas Sack, Rare breed Sheepskin Rug

When I was asked by Not On The High Street to choose some items to make a Christmas theme for my home I was really excited...... I love Christmas!!!

My first thought was to Glam it up with plenty of Glitter and shiny baubles but having a partner who doesn't appreciate Christmas I thought I would do Christmas.... but played down.

Hand Made Wrapping Paper, Personalised Christmas Sack, Rare Bread Sheepskin Rug, Mistletoe
Although a larger company, Not on The High Street is actually made up of lots of smaller (largely Independent) business's, and therefore offers a great selection of products that are handmade, ethically produced and fair trade.
The items I chose were mainly items that could be reused through out the year but were perfect for creating a warm and cozy Christmas, indulging all the 5 senses. I first created a Christmas Pinterest board to gather my inspiration. Stars, snowflakes, sheepskin and warming chai tea!!

Although at 18 months, Alex is a little too young to fully appreciate Christmas I still wanted to choose sensory items that he would enjoy. I adore candles but would never light any with him around so decided to try some of the battery operated ones and see what Alex thought of them. They actually do flicker like normal candles and give off the most beautiful warm glow.... needless to say he (and I) loved them!!

The Personalised Christmas sack is a really beautiful item that was great value. Growing up with plenty of Christmas traditions in my family, it is great to start creating some for Alex so it is lovely to think that he will be using this sack for years to come .......

Small Leather Tray,Candles, Loose Chai tea, Spicy Ginger Cookies made using Star Cookie Cutter, Unglazed Indian Chai Cups
The Spicy biscuits and Chai were a little luxury for me. I love making Chai tea for myself from scratch but even better is when I can make it to share with my long time Christmas comrade, my sister Lizzy. Therefore it was totally necessary I choose 2 of the little Handmade Indian Chai Mugs.

The Antique Sunburst Mirror is one I have had my eye on for a long time,  with it's rich gold colour it reminds me of the shining North Star. I dressed it up with some of the Tangier Christmas light and teamed it up with a vintage Indian Patchwork throw and a Mug of Mulled wine.

I adore the Mirror, but for me the most beautiful item I received was the Rare Bread Sheepskin rug. I have had cheaper ones in the past which are perfectly adequate, but I have got to say the quality of this one is amazing, it is so so soft.... Alex loves wiggling around on it!

Antique Gold Sunburst Mirror, Tangiers Lights, Candles, Mulled Wine Glass (didn't stay full for long)
I have really enjoyed dressing my house up and would like too thank Not On The High Street for the opportunity. I was genuinely surprised by the large selection of products on offer from smaller and independent companies.... the hardest job was trying to choose !!!

You know when you are little and you plan your dream home with your siblings? Well mine would always include a spiral staircase. They have always been the top of my cool list. They are of course impracticable and a bit of a ball ache to walk up and down, plus they are cold and really unsafe for pets and children.... but I still really want one!

Open palm incense holders from Brooklyn based Ceramic Artist Ivy

How unbelievably cool are these little hands from Ceramic artist IvyIvyIvy?

An open right hand has around the world been a symbol of protection and for many a symbol of friendship and peace. These beautiful hands come in either a little bowl form  or incense holder. The bowls (below) are perfect for palo santo incense and sage holders, or for your special jewelry. They would also look great grouped together on a wall. The incense holders are a slightly larger version as they have room for the falling incense.

I have one of the beautiful incense holders on delivery and cant wait to use it in my daily incense ritual. I have been looking for a special holder for ages!

Ivy also makes a range of other ceramic pieces, textiles and is a stylist. To view more from Ivy visit her webpage here
